Just Call Me Madam Juror

So, that trip to Chicago I was booked for? Delayed for a week because I’m going to serve another week of jury duty. I can’t talk about the case yet, but you know me- when I can, I sure as hell will. A state trooper was shot in Haywood County last year, on the side of I-40 during a traffic stop. Had they not moved that case to eastern North Carolina due to the extensive press coverage here, I would have served on that jury. While I would have loved to give the defendant in that case the electric chair, I would not have enjoyed a trial that lasted six weeks or more and may or may not have entailed being sequestered.

In general, jury duty is pretty damn cool. It’s interesting, it’s closer to home, and it starts later than work. My company pays me my regular salary for the first six weeks of service, so my verdict on jury duty is that you can’t beat it with a stick. The delay of my Chicago trip is the only real downside.

I’m planning on going the following week- the 16th through the 20th. I need to confirm with the company’s travel agent today, and that is but one item on an intimidating to do list. As is the way of my people, I’m headed into town to do some shopping. You can’t buy motivation, but maybe I’ll find some while I’m out.

Thanks to all for your comments, tweets and fb love about Adicus. The house is eerily quiet, and I miss him like hell, but I’m fine overall. Well, except for the headache that felt like an eight hour ministroke yesterday. That kinda sucked, but I feel much better today.
