This Time of Year
Spring weather makes me crazy. One day you’re sweating in shorts and a tank top, the next you’re freezing in jeans and a sweater. You think you know what to expect, but you don’t, and your overconfidence is punished by a good solid bitchslap of a cold snap. Or you dress too warm and find yourself sweating like a whore in Sunday school. Maybe you forget that the sun will leave your nose and cheeks a little pink- you’re not in the whole sunscreen routine yet.
Some nights you have to open the window and let the chilly night air into the room to cool off enough to fall asleep. You open the window the next night only to wake up at three am shivering. There’s always something about the weather that leaves you wanting- a little too much wind, maybe some ill-timed rain, the afternoon high is a few degrees too cool.
It’s enough to drive a girl to drinking. Sure, I know the weather will make a permanent shift here soon. I know that early spring will give way to late spring. The cold snaps will become fewer and further between. Even the rain will warm up, and not be so raw. The wind never lays down, but it will become warmer and not quite so cutting.
Still, the unpredictability of the weather this time of year tempts a girl to wish for winter again, just so she would know what to expect…
… almost.
I guess we just have to trust that this unsettling time of year will pass, and that summer will be worth the wait.

Spring is so unpredictable. I hate it when I dress too warm and end up sweating “like a whore in church.”
I do not heart pollen. I do heart Spring. Just not the pollen that comes with Spring. I heart baby chickens and fresh blooms. I heart smelling the clean air and wearing wife beaters with tennis skirts. And I heart you!
